Sore Throat Common Remedy

What it is: A sore throat is swelling of the pharynx (the area of the throat between the tonsils and the voice box). It can be caused by a virus so antibiotics won’t work to treat it.

Treatments: If you are into home remedies, try a salt water gargle (½ tsp salt into 1 cup water), drink cold liquids or suck on Popsicles to keep the swelling down and sooth your throat, throat lozenges can also sooth your throat however this is not recommended for small children because of a choking hazard. You can always try a warm honey lemon tea which can help soothe. If you don’t mind over the counter treatments Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) is an anti inflammatory medication. Take as recommended.

If a sore throat lasts longer than several days, you should call your health care provider.
