Common Cold Remedy

What it is: The Common Cold is an upper respiratory infection. The common cold is caused by viruses entering the body usually through the nose or mouth. It is very easy spread from person by touching things that have been touched by someone who was sick and putting something in your mouth could cause infection.

Treatment: The best way to treat a cold is to not catch it. Wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer. Wash especially before eating or putting your hands on your face. Anti bacterial soaps are not necessary considering colds are from viruses. Once a cold is caught the best thing is rest, and fluids. To treat the symptoms here are a few suggestions. Have a humidifier going and keep your nasal passages moist, it will reduce excess mucus production and help with congestion. Fever reducers like acetaminophen (Tylenol), or ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin) will reduce fevers if present as well as headaches. Take as directed. There are some inhalant ointments such as Vic’s Vaporub that can soothe a chest cold. Make sure to ask your doctor the best cold medicine for you if you have any other health issues such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or if any of your other medicines could interact with a cold medication.
